Horse Kind
Conversation transcript:
Del:
She's an Arabian [the chestnut-coloured horse]. She likes the heat.
Lisa:
And this one [the smaller black horse]?
Del:
It'll be pouring rain and Cassie [the Arabian] will be in the shed and
she'll be
standing outside.
Lisa:
You called her a feral before.
Del:
Oh well, she was feral when I got her.
She was nine year old and never ridden. You couldn't get near her.
Lisa:
Did you break her in?
Del:
I did break her in but... I had her for two years before I could
walk around with her without any problem. She was too unreliable
[to break in for a child to ride -
being a horse too small for most adults to ride].
She's the worst horse I've ever had in traffic, ever.
I had my leg in plaster and my ankle in a brace.
But she's a really nice pet.
Lisa:
And she's happy with her life?
Del:
She's good.
Lisa:
And do they get on together, these two?
Del:
Yeah. She's the matriarch [the Arabian]. She's been wonderful.
I've had quite a few horses and she was always boss cocky. But she never did
anything to hurt anyone. It would always be a look, or a tip of an ear, and they'd just "...
right-oh boss." She was always very kind.
